Illinois, 2011 to present

Clyde is the son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic. He was born in the Bronx, New York City and came to Illinois in 2004 to attended Northwestern University. He graduated from Northwestern with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Economics in 2008.

Clyde went on to attend Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he represented the school in its Mock Trial Competition Team. Clyde competed in several ABA-sponsored mock trials, winning awards as the Midwest regional champion in one competition, and the Midwest runner-up in another competition.

After law school, Clyde began his legal career in public service. Clyde served as a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney from 2011 to 2017. His first assignment there was in domestic relations, where he established millions of dollars in child-support orders and filed petitions to enforce compliance with those orders. His second assignment was in Juvenile Court where he tried several abuse and neglect cases, including cases involving shaken baby syndrome, children exposed to drugs pre-birth, and parents whose mental health symptoms put their children at risk for abuse. Clyde’s third assignment was in juvenile delinquency, where he tried criminal sexual assaults, shootings, stabbings, attempt first degree murder, robberies, and many other cases.

In 2016, Clyde joined the felony review division of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he assisted police officers with their pending investigations. In this assignment, Clyde used his knowledge of the law to help police officers build cases correctly, from the ground up. In 2017, he joined the sex crimes division of felony review, where he reviewed investigations dealing with luring/grooming of children, aggravated criminal sexual assault, predatory criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, child pornography, and other sex offenses that were facilitated by technology (sexting/Facebook/SnapChat).

In 2017, the nation was dealing with the opioid epidemic, and Kankakee County was no exception. The issue was so bad, that President Trump specifically singled out Kankakee County as a place that was harmed by overdose deaths. The number of overdose deaths in Kankakee was 3 times that of their neighbor, Will County. The new State’s Attorney received a grant to combat the overdose problem, and Clyde joined the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office and immediately went to work. As the Complex Narcotics Prosecutor, Clyde handled hundreds of gangs, guns, and drug cases. These included cases of drug trafficking on I-57, Armed Violence, Armed Habitual Criminal, Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and a number of other drug and gun crime cases. Clyde also assisted ongoing investigations involving warrants and undercover street purchases of narcotics. Within 1 year of joining Kankakee County, the overdose drug rate went down by about 50%.

In 2021, Clyde’s family was growing, and he was looking to purchase a home out in the west suburbs of Chicago. He moved to Kendall County and began working as a felony assistant State’s Attorney in DeKalb County. Clyde was planning on finishing his time in public service in DeKalb County when his home county of Kendall experienced a huge need for criminal defense lawyers. Of the 5 public defenders in Kendall County, 3 had left the office by the summer of 2021. Clyde joined the Public Defender’s Office as a way to help the people of Kendall County.

Clyde started the Law Office of Clyde Guilamo in 2017 while he was still working as a prosecutor. At that time, his office only handled Cook County property tax appeals. Over the years, he helped homeowners save thousands in property taxes. In 2022, Clyde left government work entirely to go full-time into his practice, adding criminal defense, juvenile, expungements, and family law to his practice areas.
